Returning from two powerful days in Las Vegas at the Longevity Conference and Mr. Olympia, I feel incredibly inspired.
Congratulations to Nick Walker, the new 2026 Mr. Olympia and the world’s number-one bodybuilder!
The commitment, discipline, and extraordinary effort demonstrated by the men and women across every category reminded me of what is possible when we pursue a goal with total focus. These athletes do not build extraordinary physiques through occasional effort. Their results come from the choices they make every day—the way they train, recover, eat, think, and continue when the work becomes difficult.
That lesson extends far beyond bodybuilding. The same principles shape our health, careers, relationships, and ability to create meaningful lives.
Inspiration Through Health and Discipline
A special thank-you to Rose Cardoso, who continually inspires me through her dedication to whole, plant-based foods, her exceptional physique, and her passion for helping others look and feel their best.
Over the years, we have attended the Arnold Classic and Mr. Olympia many times, met world-class athletes, and even trained at the legendary Dragon’s Lair Gym.

Experiences like these reinforce something I have believed for decades: human potential is far greater than most people realize.
The body can adapt. The mind can grow stronger. Our habits can change. At almost any age, we can decide to move toward greater health, vitality, and purpose.
But transformation requires more than knowledge. It also requires courage.
Is the Bird Trusting the Branch—or Its Wings?
I recently saw a viral clip featuring the CEO of a billion-dollar company. He was asked what single piece of advice he would give to the younger generation.
His answer was beautiful:
“When you see a bird land on a branch that it has never been on before, is the bird trusting the branch—or its own wings?”
That question stayed with me because every meaningful goal involves uncertainty.
In business, you may need to:
- Increase your advertising investment
- Stop serving a particular type of customer
- Expand into a new market
- Adjust your pricing or offer
- Purchase the next building
- Make another important bet on your future
In life, you may need to change the way you eat, begin exercising again, leave an unhealthy situation, repair a relationship, or finally pursue the dream you have postponed for years.
These decisions almost always have to be made with incomplete information. By the time every fact is known and every risk has disappeared, the opportunity is usually gone.
The branch will never be completely certain. The constant is you—your wings, your preparation, your resilience, and your belief that whatever happens, you will find a way forward.
You Have Not Lost While You Can Still Keep Trying
I have experienced my fair share of failures in business and in life. One belief has served me especially well:
I’m not dead.
That means I still have breath in me. If I am breathing, I can keep trying. If I can keep trying, I have not lost.
This does not mean taking careless risks or ignoring what the evidence tells us. It means preparing ourselves, learning what we can, and refusing to remain on the sidelines forever while waiting for perfect certainty.
At some point, we must make the leap and do what we know we need to do.
We must trust our wings.
When we take that leap, one of three things happens: we succeed, we learn, or life ends.
If we learn, the jump benefited us. If we succeed, we move on to the next branch. Either way, courageous action moves us forward.
Building the Strength to Take the Leap

Tonight, I am at Inspiration Point in Corona del Mar, watching a spectacular sunset with the dumbbells I have used for years while training to break world records in curls and the curl-and-press.
I will finish the evening by jumping into the beautiful Pacific Ocean and spending precious time with my youngest son, age 17; my oldest son, age 48; my children and grandchildren; my beloved Aunt Maria and Jack; and my remarkable 91-year-old mother, Bea Delgado.
This is what longevity means to me.
It is not simply adding more years to life. It is building the physical strength, emotional energy, and mental clarity to remain fully present for the people we love and the purpose we are here to fulfill.
Your daily choices strengthen your wings. Every nourishing meal, workout, restorative night of sleep, courageous decision, and promise you keep to yourself makes you more capable of meeting the next challenge.
You do not need to know exactly what every future branch will look like. You need to keep developing the strength and confidence to fly.
