Following personalized nutrition, fitness, and supplement protocol will enhance your mental, physical and emotional wellbeing. However, if you want to maximize your health and happiness then you need to tap into and reprogram your subconscious mind. Below is an explanation of the unique therapy that uses the power of the subconscious mind for creating positive changes, and 3 techniques which will allow you to achieve success in all aspects of your life.
NLP Therapy
Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP, is a highly effective therapy for personal transformations and development. It can be used to achieve any goal you desire, even if all your past attempts have failed. The name sums up the therapy – Neuro refers to neurology (the brain and nervous system), Linguistic refers to the power of language, and Programming refers to how the neural language functions.[i] NLP practitioners help their patients become aware of the language of their subconscious minds, because subconscious thought processes dictate choices and whether or not a person will achieve what they set out to do.
Understanding the Subconscious Mind
The power of your subconscious mind should not be underestimated – approximately 95 of your decisions, actions, emotions, and behaviors are dictated by it. Most of your subconscious mind is programmed by the time you turn 7, which means that your current beliefs about self-worth, success, love, money, health, happiness and relationships are based on your childhood experiences. NLP practitioners often say the conscious mind is the goal setter and the subconscious mind is the goal-getter.[ii] Unfortunately, the subconscious mind often wants something very different then the conscious mind and consciously willing yourself to lose weight, eat healthily, or love openly, will be in vain if your subconscious mind is not on board.
Talk therapy, counseling, diets, and lifestyle modification attempts often fail because they don’t take into account the power of the subconscious mind. For real and lasting changes to occur, you need to modify your subconscious programming, and that is not something you can to happen. The following NLP tools and technique will help you reprogram your subconscious mind so that you can achieve success in all aspects of your life.
Visualize What You Want to Achieve
A visualization is a principal tool in NLP therapy. To use this technique, choose one goal to focus on at a time. Sit in a quiet place, close your eyes and focus on taking long deep breaths, feeling the air enter your nostrils, expand your belly, and slowly leave your body. After a few minutes, when you feel your body and mind have relaxed, start to visualize yourself having already achieved your goal. Feel the emotions you will feel when that goal is attained, and revel in that feeling. Repeat this exercise often, and your subconscious mind will learn to embrace the goal and provide you with the motivation to achieve it.
A Visualization Example
Say you want to attain your ideal body weight. See yourself at that weight, see the clothes you will be wearing, feel how walking feels without the added pounds weighing you down. Feel the freedom of movement, the confidence, the enhanced self-image. See how it affects your daily routines, hear how it affects the way you talk, and observe how it changes your interactions with strangers.
For added momentum, spend a couple of minutes before falling asleep visualizing the goal and associated feelings of success. A vision board can also be helpful–place it in eyesight of where you sleep and look at it every morning before you get out of bed.
Modify Your Language
Your language has a powerful effect on your mind and emotional state and modifying the language you use will help to transform your entire reality. Becoming aware of the words you use during self-talk and when you communicate with others, and choosing wisely, can prime you for success and dramatically improve your health, relationships, career, self-perception, and entire existence. Use positive, empowering words, and dispel phrases such as “I can’t” “It’s too hard” “I’m unable” “I’m not ___ enough” “I’m unlovable” and “I’m a failure.” Also replace the word “should” which stalls action, with the phrase “I will.”
Reframe Your Experiences
Reframing is an NLP technique that helps change the way you perceive a past event or current situation, and it allows you to completely transform the meanings they hold for you. Reframing past struggles can help you to stop feeling like a victim of those events or relationships, and to instead feel strong and powerful for overcoming them. Reframing current situations that you feel powerless over can help you take back your power and will prompt your subconscious mind to search for solutions. You are rarely stuck, solutions are almost always available, and you simply need to ask yourself:
- In what another way can I view this?
- What other perspectives could I use?
- What are some alternate viewpoints that others might use?
