The Delgado Protocol for Men: Balance Hormones, Reduce Estrogen Burden, and Rebuild Vitality

Dr. Nick Delgado

Dr. Nick Delgado

Helping people with their journey to health, happiness and their goals in career, relationships and longevity.

Low energy. Stubborn abdominal or chest fat. A fading sex drive. Difficulty building muscle. Mood changes or erectile dysfunction. These concerns are common, frustrating, and easy to blame on a single hormone.

But male hormone health is rarely that simple.

Men need estrogen as well as testosterone. Estrogen contributes to bone health, sexual function, body composition, and other essential processes. The goal is not to eliminate it, but to maintain a healthy relationship among testosterone, estradiol, DHT, and the systems that produce, use, and clear these hormones.

That is the central idea behind the Delgado Protocol: measure first, address the whole person, and avoid aggressive hormone manipulation based on symptoms alone.

Important: This article is for education only. It does not diagnose or treat any condition. Hormone symptoms, new breast changes, erectile dysfunction, and supplement use should be discussed with a qualified healthcare professional.

Hormone Balance Is About More Than ā€œHigh Estrogenā€

The phrase estrogen dominance is widely used in wellness conversations, but it is not a single, universally recognized medical diagnosis. The symptoms often attributed to it can have many causes.

True gynecomastia, for example, is the growth of glandular breast tissue in a male. It may develop when estrogen activity becomes high relative to androgen activity, but it can also be associated with low testosterone, certain medications, alcohol or drug use, thyroid or liver disease, anabolic substances, and—in uncommon cases—tumors. Chest fat without glandular growth, sometimes called pseudogynecomastia, is a different issue.

Body fat can still play an important role. Fat tissue contains aromatase, an enzyme that converts androgens into estrogens. As body fat rises, aromatase activity may also increase. Even so, a symptom or body-composition change cannot reveal the full hormonal picture by itself.

The same caution applies to an enlarged prostate and erectile dysfunction. Both are multifactorial. Erectile dysfunction may involve blood-vessel disease, diabetes, medication effects, nerve problems, psychological factors, or hormonal disorders. In some men, it is an early signal that broader cardiometabolic health deserves attention.

Step One: Build the Complete Male Health Picture

A responsible evaluation starts with medical history, a physical examination, and targeted testing—not a supplement stack.

Depending on symptoms, age, and clinical history, a healthcare professional may consider:

  • Morning total testosterone, with repeat testing when appropriate
  • Free testosterone or a calculated estimate
  • Sensitive estradiol
  • Sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG)
  • Luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
  • Prolactin and, in selected cases, DHEA-S
  • Thyroid, liver, and kidney markers
  • Complete blood count and comprehensive metabolic panel
  • Fasting glucose, HbA1c, lipids, and sometimes fasting insulin
  • PSA when appropriate for age, risk, symptoms, and shared decision-making
  • Additional testing guided by the clinical picture

A full review of medications, alcohol intake, supplements, cannabis, anabolic steroids, and SARMs is equally important. These details are not side notes; they can materially change the diagnosis and the safest next step.

Some integrative practitioners also use 24-hour urine hormone metabolites or saliva cortisol testing. These specialty tests may provide additional context in selected cases, but they should be interpreted by a knowledgeable clinician and should not replace standard evaluation or validated blood testing.

Know the red flags

Seek prompt medical evaluation for:

  • A hard or one-sided breast mass
  • Nipple discharge, skin dimpling, or nipple retraction
  • A testicular lump or a change in testicular size
  • Rapidly enlarging or painful breast tissue
  • Persistent urinary symptoms
  • New or persistent erectile dysfunction

These symptoms do not automatically mean something serious is present, but they do deserve proper assessment.

Step Two: Support Normal Estrogen Metabolism

Hormones are continuously transformed, circulated, and eliminated. The liver and digestive tract are central to this process. It is helpful to think of their work in three broad stages.

1. Transformation

Liver enzymes convert estrogens into metabolites that can move through additional processing pathways. Cruciferous vegetables—including broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and kale—provide compounds the body can convert into diindolylmethane, or DIM.

DIM supplements are often marketed to support estrogen metabolism. Early research suggests that DIM can influence patterns of estrogen metabolites, but that is not the same as proving that it treats gynecomastia, erectile dysfunction, or prostate disease. The most accurate language is that it may support normal estrogen metabolism.

Within the Delgado product framework, EstroBlock Pro Triple Strength is positioned for concentrated DIM-based nutritional support. It should be used as supportive nutrition, not as a substitute for diagnosis or medical treatment.

2. Conjugation

The liver attaches chemical groups to hormone metabolites so the body can eliminate them more efficiently. Nutrients such as folate, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, magnesium, and choline participate in related biochemical pathways.

An absorbable B-complex may help address an identified dietary or laboratory need. Calcium D-glucarate is used to support glucuronidation, while LivD-Tox is intended to provide complementary nutritional support for normal liver function. Human evidence does not justify promising that these supplements ā€œremove toxic estrogenā€ or reverse disease.

The distinction matters: responsible wellness support should complement good clinical care, not make treatment claims that the evidence cannot support.

3. Elimination

After processing, hormone metabolites leave the body through urine and bile, with bile-derived material ultimately moving through the stool. Regular bowel function therefore supports normal elimination.

The most reliable foundation is a varied, fiber-rich diet built around foods such as:

  • Beans, peas, and lentils
  • Intact whole grains
  • Sweet potatoes and other minimally processed complex carbohydrates
  • Cruciferous and colorful vegetables
  • Mushrooms, cucumbers, onions, and bell peppers
  • Whole fruit, including berries, apples, citrus, and pears
  • Nuts and seeds when appropriate

Soaking legumes before cooking may improve texture and tolerance for some people, but safe preparation does not require one specific cooking method. Pressure cookers, stovetop cooking, and slow cookers can all be useful when foods are prepared correctly.

Increase fiber gradually and pair it with adequate fluids. A sudden jump can cause gas, bloating, diarrhea, or constipation, especially in people with digestive conditions. The right intake is individualized; more is not always better. Rather than chasing an extreme target or a fixed number of bowel movements, aim for comfortable, regular stools and seek professional guidance if symptoms persist.

Over time, a diverse plant-based diet can help nourish a diverse intestinal microbiome. Happy Gut or similar nutritional support may have a role when appropriate, but the foundation remains food variety, hydration, movement, sleep, and consistency.

Step Three: Rebuild Male Vitality From the Ground Up

Hormone health is inseparable from metabolic and cardiovascular health. A sustainable vitality plan typically includes:

  • Reducing excess body fat when needed
  • Progressive resistance training
  • Regular aerobic activity
  • Adequate sleep and evaluation for sleep apnea when indicated
  • Stable blood sugar and improved insulin sensitivity
  • Sufficient protein, micronutrients, and total calories
  • Stress management and healthy alcohol intake
  • Treatment of confirmed medical conditions

The Delgado supplement lineup assigns different supportive roles to different products:

  • EstroBlock Pro Triple Strength: nutritional support for favorable estrogen metabolism
  • EstroBlock Vitality: hormone-clearance and healthy-aging support, including ingredients such as spermidine and calcium D-glucarate
  • Calcium D-glucarate: support for glucuronidation and intestinal elimination pathways
  • LivD-Tox: nutritional support for normal liver function
  • Absorbable B-complex: cofactors involved in methylation and energy metabolism
  • TestroMoreā„¢: support for male vitality and normal testosterone physiology
  • DHT Block: prostate-focused androgen-metabolism support
  • Amore V and Amore O: adjuncts within the broader vitality framework

These products are not interchangeable, and none should be treated as a cure. Because pushing estrogen or DHT too low may adversely affect libido, erections, mood, bone health, or body composition, supplementation should be guided by symptoms, laboratory findings, medications, and professional supervision.

Why This Approach Is Different From Recreational SARMs

Selective androgen receptor modulators, or SARMs, directly stimulate androgen receptors. They were developed experimentally to reproduce some anabolic effects of testosterone, but SARMs sold for bodybuilding are not FDA-approved therapies.

They do not ā€œdetoxā€ estrogen, repair the body’s hormonal control system, or treat an enlarged prostate. Some can suppress natural testosterone production, disrupt cholesterol levels, impair fertility, and cause sexual side effects. Products purchased online may also be mislabeled or contain undisclosed substances.

The FDA has warned that products containing SARMs or steroid-like substances have been associated with serious risks, including liver injury, testicular shrinkage, sexual dysfunction, heart attack, and stroke.

The Delgado Protocol takes a fundamentally different path:

  1. Test before trying to manipulate hormones.
  2. Identify medication, lifestyle, and medical contributors.
  3. Reduce excess body fat and support insulin sensitivity.
  4. Improve cardiovascular fitness, sleep, and recovery.
  5. Support normal liver and intestinal hormone metabolism.
  6. Correct confirmed nutritional deficiencies.
  7. Protect the body’s natural testosterone production.
  8. Reassess symptoms and laboratory markers instead of guessing.

The Bottom Line

Male vitality does not come from driving one hormone up and another down. It comes from understanding the whole system: hormones, body composition, cardiovascular function, glucose control, sleep, nutrition, liver health, gut health, medications, and personal risk factors.

The most responsible version of the Delgado Protocol is not a promise of a quick detox. It is a measurement-first, lifestyle-centered strategy that uses targeted nutritional support only where it fits—and recognizes when medical care is necessary.

If you are experiencing breast changes, urinary symptoms, reduced libido, low energy, or erectile dysfunction, begin with a qualified healthcare professional. The right testing can turn a vague concern into a clear, safer plan.
