5 Simple Steps to Reverse Acne and Give You Healthy Skin for Life

Acne is an extremely common skin disorder that effects over 50 million Americans every year. Most people try to treat their acne with topical products but acne is a reflection of an internal imbalance and no matter how expensive or ‘innovate’ the topical product is, it will never truly eliminate acne because it fails to address the root cause. Companies don’t want you to know this though, because acne is a 3 billion dollar a year industry, and dermatological companies thrive on the myth that washes, scrubs, creams, gels, lasers and other ‘magical acne potions’ will give you the clear, radiant skin you seek. Fortunately, if you’re sick and tired of acne and truly ready to gain beautiful, radiant skin for life, all you have to do is follow the below 5 steps.

Step #1 Modify Your Diet

Ideally, you want to consume a low-fat, high-fiber, plant-based diet. Alcohol, sugar, grains and oils are highly inflammatory and should be vastly reduced or eliminated. Animal products are particularly problematic because they are loaded with hormones and antibiotics. As such, you should limit your meat intake and avoid dairy completely because it’s both loaded with hormones and high in acne-causing sugars. Focus on including a lot of raw green veggies, fruits (especially citrus), a wide range of fresh herbs, and lots of herbal teas (dandelion is particularly helpful for detoxification).

Step #2 Reduce Inflammation

Inflammation causes the swelling and redness associated with acne and also reduces the effects of progesterone. This is problematic because progesterone is needed in order to keep testosterone levels in check. Without enough progesterone, too much testosterone gets converted into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which in turn causes sebum to clog up the hair follicles in your pores. The clogging then allows bacteria to grow and your immune system reacts by increasing inflammation at the site; thus creating a vicious acne cycle. Consuming the above diet will help to vastly reduce inflammation levels. You should also try to get lots of deep, restorative sleep, and reduce stress levels – both of which will lower the output of inflammation-boosting adrenal hormones.

Step #3 Detoxify

Every day our bodies are bombarded with countless toxins. They’re in the polluted air that we breathe, in the medications, we swallow, in the water we drink, in the plastic containers, our food is served in, in our paint, in our cars, and in the pesticide-laden foods that we eat. Our livers, lungs, kidneys, and colons were designed to breakdown and eliminate toxins, but overtime, the massive toxic burden can become too much, and the organs stop functioning optimally. Your skin is your largest eliminative organ, and the toxins need to go somewhere, so when the other organs stop working properly, the toxins are forced out through your skin. Eating the diet mentioned above and exercising at a level that promotes sweat will both help to stimulate the detoxification process. To encourage further detoxification, start each morning off with a glass of warm lemon water (this helps optimize liver function), and include green veggie drinks in your diet– they are loaded with essential nutrients for detoxification.

Step #4 Check Your Hormones

If you suffer from stubborn acne, and modifying your diet does not help heal it, chances are your acne is caused by hormonal imbalances. Studies have found that acne is almost non-existent in cultures who consume traditional, healthy diets. One reason for this is that wholefoods based diets cause an increase in Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SHBG) levels, which is helpful because SHBG binds to excess steroid hormones such as testosterone and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and inactivates them; thereby preventing them from clogging up your pores. Estrogen dominance is another major cause of acne that should be considered because it increases the blood sugar-regulating hormone insulin, which in turn increases acne-causing androgens and raises DHT levels in the skin. You should have your hormone levels checked and consider supplementation and/or bioidentical hormone therapy in order to reverse any imbalances.

Step #5 Consider Supplementation

The above steps will be tremendously helpful on your acne-clearing journey. However, some people will require additional help through supplementation. Individuals with more severe acne usually suffer from a combination of too much inflammation, weakened liver function, and imbalanced hormones. Liv-D-Tox contains a range of ingredients that help to reduce inflammation and boost liver function. If hormonal testing reveals high estrogen and/or low progesterone, EstroBlock can be tremendously helpful. EstroBlock helps to clear out extra toxic estrogens and reverse estrogen dominance and many acne sufferers have experienced complete acne reversal from taking it. Depending on your personal hormonal profile, you may also benefit from DHT Block, which contains a proprietary blend of ingredients that reduce DHT and prevent it from clogging up your skin.

One final thing to consider is that the internal conditions that created acne, did not occur overnight, and reversing them will take some time and patience. You will likely notice more radiant skin within a couple of weeks, but if you have extremely stubborn acne, it could take up to 6 months for complete acne healing. The effort is worth it though — not only will you be rewarded with clear, glowing skin, you’ll also increase your energy and vitality, and reduce your disease risk along the way.
